Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Clackmannanshire and Dunblane constituency, has welcomed the news that the Scottish Government is supporting an estimated 1,349 school children across Clackmannanshire to buy school clothes with £136,000 of additional support through the School Clothing Grant.
The School Clothing Grant was increased this month by the Scottish Government and provides families with primary school children with £120 per child and £150 per child in secondary school.
Speaking this afternoon, Keith said:
“Getting kids ready for a new school year can be a real expense so there is no doubt that these increases to the School Clothing Grant will be widely welcomed by families in my constituency for whom it would otherwise be a significant challenge.
“My constituents in Clackmannanshire, are seeing £136,000 worth of additional funds supporting grants for an estimated 1,349 school pupils, to help them get kitted out with new clothing and shoes for school.
“Yet again, we see a tale of two governments as the SNP Scottish Government builds a social security system built on dignity, fairness and respect, the Tories in Westminster are preparing to cut Universal Credit, threatening to plunge 20,000 children in Scotland into poverty.”
