Keith Brown MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Clackmannan-shire & Dunblane constituency, has welcomed the easing of restrictions but warned of the need to remain cautious and to follow the remaining guidelines with care.

Speaking this afternoon, Keith said:

“This weekend has seen the vaccination programme across Scotland attain several very important milestones.  We have reached the significant stage where first doses have been completed for everyone over 18 who has been able to attend the appointment they were offered.

“Now the focus is very much on making progress on second doses and mopping up those who, for whatever reason, have not yet been able to get their first dose and I urge everyone to take up this important opportunity.

“With almost 90% of adults now having received their first dose and over 56% of the population fully vaccinated, we have one of the most successful vaccination programmes in the world.  Indeed, our first dose uptake is higher than it is in England so it is extremely disappointing to see Tories here suggesting that a 90% take-up is somehow a failure.

“Even though, here in Scotland – unlike the rest of the UK – case numbers are falling again, people are still getting sick and, sadly, dying of this virus.  Any talk of the danger being passed is foolishness and, frankly, dangerous.

“Whilst, today sees a very welcome easing of Covid restrictions, it is not a wholesale abandonment. Please everyone, continue to exercise caution.  Stick to limits on gatherings, observe appropriate distance, wear face coverings, ventilate rooms and wash hands.”
